Flying Graffiti Condoms

At the beginning of the year my project greatly evolved around street art and I was keen to find a new way of doing street art, I knew that it has been taken to great levels in recent times but I wanted to find somewhere it wasn't present and see where it would be taken next. I looked to the sky.

I came up with the slogan "You Took It To The Street, I Took It To The Sky".
IThis is a photo I took from my sketch book to show my idea development. After my endeavour with purely street art my movement and motion project suddenly took a turn towards snails as you know. This picture shows the movement of a rather pacey snail.
A sky lantern is a difficult canvas to take advantage of. The delicate surface made for careful consideration when it came to deciding what media to use to put my messages on these flying canvases. I used mostly promarkers as spray-paint and other paint was a sky lantern disintegrater .
I got the idea to put my blog address on the side of the sky lanterns in case they were found after falling and the person had an interest in finding out what the hell a painted lantern was doing in their back garden.

My speedy snail design repeated over three sides of this sky lantern was no mean feat. Four hours of careful marker work later and voila!

Again my blog address printed on this  one. Snails being the central theme of my project they were always to be included.

The big day was finally here. The stormy weather in Galway and Limerick lately didn't exactly make for ideal sky lantern flying conditions. I waited and waited until i got some good conditions.

..

Blog address. Even added a please for good measure XP

A few of the lads generously offered a helping hand. Special thanks to Leigh and Ciarán (not so much ciarán). We had great craic trying to fill these with hot air , so much so that we broke the candle part of this one. Disaster, I opted to cut off a candle from my other sky lantern and use it on this one and use the candle-less sky lantern to exhibit for my assessments.

New fuse fitted and ready to go .

This video clip was filmed in a rush and I probably missed the best parts of the clip, oh well, The clip includes some excitement. The wind nearly stopped the lantern taking flight.
